WILLIAM HORWOOD BIOGRAPHY AND WORK

William Horwood is a former financial journalist and feature editor of the London Daily Mail. He has published a succession of bestsellers since the early 1980s when his first novel DUNCTON WOOD, an adult fantasy novel, was in the Sunday Times top ten for 23 weeks. He has established a strong reputation for delivering best-selling series including the Duncton Chronicles, The Wolves of Time and the Willows books.

His four sequels to Kenneth Grahame's classic, The Wind in the Willows, published from 1993 on, have had outstanding critical and commercial success. But already by then his two DUNCTON trilogies, about a community of spiritual moles, had established themselves as hugely popular modern classics of animal-based adult fiction.

William, who has an Honours Degree in Geographical Sciences from Bristol University began his career working for a succession of specialist trade marketing and financial magazines as well as writing on marketing for the Financial Times. He worked in the City as Executive Editor of Money Mail the personal finance pages of the Daily Mail before becoming a senior editor of the newspaper with responsibility for its Femail pages. He has published fifteen novels and, most recently (2004) a highly acclaimed memoir, THE BOY WITH NO SHOES. His popular author media tours are enhanced by the fact that he is a highly successful competitive speaker a national level, having won both the Impromptu and Evaluation of the Anglo-Irish contests of Toastmasters International.

Most of these titles appeared on the London Sunday Times Top Ten hardback list, and most in the paperback listings as well. Two have been filmed: The Willows in Winter, as a Carlton TV animation; and Skallagrigg as a BBC film which won the 1996 BAFTA Film of the Year award.
